INTERVIEW WITH ISAAC DELAHAYE (EPICA)

Spanish Version

The great guitarist, creative consultant and executive, finance manager, graphic designer of posters and composer from Epica, Isaac Delahaye, share with us a few words for their new tours, a special live gift for Chile and their probably new LIVE-DVD.

1.- At this point, how is the band feeling with the results of “Quantum Enigma? How it was to premiere some songs of the new album on tour and how it was the reception of the shows and the disc by the fans?

We’re very happy with the new album and it seems like the fans feel the same way. Reactions are extremely good and also live everyone seems to dig the new stuff. We went straight into the European festival season after releasing “The Quantum Enigma”, playing quite a number of new songs, and everywhere we got raving crowds. The new songs just seem to have a great live feel to them!
I think this definitely is the best album I’ve ever done and it’s like a new start for Epica.

2.- Going back to the last live DVD of Epica, the 10th anniversary on Netherlands, have you guys thought on make a live DVD on South America? If there is a possibility, in which country would you like to record it?

Yeah, we’ve been thinking of that for quite a while already. However, logistically it’s not an easy thing to do as you need to work with people from the other side of the world or fly over a European crew. That’s both time consuming and highly expensive. Strategically Mexico would be a good option, as this is close to the US and because we pull quite big crowds over there. But at this point we’re focusing on promoting the new album and still happy with “Retrospect” so that’s all matter for the future.

3.- Regarding to the next Epica Tour on Latin America, do you guys have any special surprise for your show in Chile? Have you thought in an acoustic session for any of your songs?

Epica is a metal band in the first place, so we don’t plan to do acoustic versions of the songs during shows. This is more something for a special occasion for in-store signings or anything like that. We have some awesome new songs in our pocket so we’ll play a number of new songs for the first time in Chile! We’re also looking for options to have some specials during the show, but nothing has been decided as of now.

4.- Do you have any plan of re recording some of the first albums of Epica, like “Consign to Oblivion, thinking on a 10th years version of these albums?

We just re-released “The Phantom Agony” last year, with a special orchestral disc. The plan is to do the same with “Consign to Oblivion” in the near future. Personally, I prefer working on new material instead of doing a re-recording of old songs. But never say never! It might happen at some point in time.

5.- Is there any band you would like to share the stage with?

I know it a utopia, but if Dimebag would still be alive, I’d love to share the stage with Pantera! It’s such an innovative and badass band. World class.

6.- How do you deal with being ‘homesick’ (stay away from family) while touring?

It’s easier than it used to be, because of the internet. Having a smart phone and laptop on the road is an easy way to stay in touch with friends and family while being away. I’m never really homesick, as I enjoy being on the road. However, at the end of a world tour it’s always good to take some time off and to focus on writing new stuff and recording a new album. I really like to diversity of being in a band: going allover the world, recording albums, playing shows, getting to know new cutures, meeting fans, creating new music, etc. I’m the last one to complain!
